We have been reading "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds during Reading Workshop! In addition to making connections to our own lives, retelling the story, and more, we tried painting in class for the first time! We used watercolors to create our very own "dots." They are all unique and different, and we all practiced how to be respectful to the environment when using paints.
Today we welcomed Ms. Lestock's 2nd graders visit our room at the end of the day! We really enjoyed listening to them read stories to us. They will be coming by every Thursday afternoon to sit with us and demonstrate what great readers we will be when we are 2nd graders, too!
Today we took a walking field trip across the street to the police station! We had a chance to speak to police officers and ask questions, tour a police motorcycle, "monster truck" and patrol car, in honor of Jayson's birthday. We had to practice the essential agreements while walking from the school, especially "listen" and "stay with the group!" We all left with gifts and badge stickers from the officers. Special thanks to G'Johnathan's mom, Andrea for chaperoning the event and walking over with me and the students, and to Jayson's mom Temika for coordinating the visit. The students had a great time!
